So I made progress on getting the seats mounted and plates in place prepared for ultimate welds to the ground.  At this level I used to be haunted by a little bit voice that stated to take away all of the sound proofing. I so to whoever right here put that bug in my ear, I thanks.

I used to be planning to only go away the outdated stuff in, and panel over it, however I’m a glutton for punishment.  I’m glad that I did, I discovered a bizarre reduce and gap within the aspect of the transmission tunnel.  Unsure what the heck occurred.   Maybe it was a gap to refill the 4 velocity transmission.  It was leaking water into the passenger aspect footwell.

So after utilizing my air chisel to peel all of the stuff off, I additionally discovered a flooring plug that was free.  Fortunately the outdated sealant stored it waterproof.    Listed here are some picks.  Please do not decide my booger welds.  I used to be holding my breath for a few them. Additionally my new magnetic grounding clamp is damaged(ish).

I’ll weld the plates to the automotive utilizing #30 stable core mig with weldgas (80percentArgon/20percentCO2 combine).  I used flux core for the principle cross bars the place the connect to the plates, because it will get very deep penetration  and does properly with areas that aren’t completely clear. I used to be blowing via the welds to the physique it with the fluxcore.

I used some rust converter I had laying round.  It’s the blue suff( some form of nitric acid factor I feel) and it left a bizarre white and rust colored powder.  I’ll wipe it away and see the way it seems to be. I’m not certain if I have to get totally different stuff.

I’m not going with the standard coatings and as an alternative choosing Steelit Chrome steel paint coating. It bonds extremely properly to something, and you may weld via it, which is ideal as I’ll seemingly be engaged on the tunnel this upcoming winter.

Within the footage beneath you may see the place I used to be including tabs to carry the wires.   A fast patch and I can be again on monitor.  I needed to go away the passenger aspect seat  greater to accommodate the battery cables.  I did not need them to run exterior and so they had been too huge go down the mid line of the tunnel.

The drivers aspect seat I pushed again about an inch and down about 2 as in comparison with the passenger aspect.  These seats sit greater and my head was all however brushing the roof on the passenger aspect, so I needed to make it a bit totally different.  I do not suppose anybody will actually discover.

P.S the remainder of the photographs are some E21 hubs that I offered to a fellow 02er.  That is what I sometimes love to do after I promote stuff.  I’ll attempt to bead blast it and coat it with Steelit, so long as it would not take away any of the worth.

PPS.. Some thoughts blowing focaccia I did final week.  See if you could find it…  we crushed the entire loaf at one sitting.

Get pleasure from!
